Last month we were invited to Light’s first ever guest blogger event. My husband and I were excited. Dennis had big plans for The Blog Of Light Ong. Being invited to events as a guest blogger is just one of them. 🙂 We were invited to participate as a guest blogger at ActiveFun’s Star Voice Season 2 singing contest.
Of course, being new to this I didn’t know what to expect. Did they want us to join the contest? Didn’t they know that Light is not even a year old? We would surely lose, or probably just win the most charming award. ‘Coz my Light is very charming, and cute, and just adorable! 🙂 But as my husband explained, they just wanted us to cover the event, perhaps for additional exposure.
And so I made the plans (scheduling Dennis’ time, mine and Light’s so it would be convenient, “efficient”, for all of us). I was excited. I enjoy going to events, not to mention getting free stuff (oops! :p).
Since I’m new to this whole mom thing, I didn’t know much about ActiveFun and all the other cool places kids go to these days. I don’t think we had places like these in my time. It would’ve been awesome. I mean, I’m all grown up now but I would love to play at ActiveFun. They have these cool tunnels and bridges and pillars. Kids can run, climb, roll, crawl, jump and do whatever they want without getting hurt. And apparently, it’s not just a “playground”. It’s a recreational facility where kids can play, learn and engage with other kids too.
I personally can’t wait for Light to try ActiveFun. I know too well that joyful feeling I get when I see her all excited and when she makes that cute smile of hers. It warms my heart just to see her having fun. 🙂
Anyway, I was so sure that I would see a lot of Tiger Moms or Stage Moms pressuring their kids to win, but actually, I just saw a lot of really proud parents and very supportive families. It was surprising. In a world where you always have to be the best and to win, it was refreshing to see kids happily doing what they want to do. And they were really good. I mean seriously, how can they sing that way?!? The kids were also oozing with confidence. It’s a wonderful trait to have at a young age.
So here are our (my) favorite kids that day.
Light was enjoying it, too. Well, she enjoyed half of the show. She was clapping and being really observant. Then an hour in to the show she fell asleep. My poor baby. She slept all the way to the end, even when the kids were belching out the high notes.
I wonder if she would want to join contests like these next time. Would I want her to join? Would I become the Tiger/Stage mom? I think I’d be a proud mom. Im already a proud mom. My Light is smart and advance for her age! Yes! 🙂
Overall it was a nice, new experience for both of us. We even got to take a picture with a celebrity, the original Clara, Ms. Gladys Reyes. Light has been collecting photos of her with celebrities on her Instagram account. 🙂
Apologies for the bad shots. I was carrying Light around (asleep), so I had to be gentle with my movements. I guess that’s one lesson learned. If you’re going to bring your baby to an event, be sure you have someone with you to look after your baby while you run around taking nice photos. 🙂
