Another month, another post in the moms make money series.
So, your blog is done. Now you need to optimize it.
Just in case you missed it, YOU NEED TRAFFIC.
You need people to find you using the search engines, not just through your shares on Facebook or Twitter.
The world is HUGE and there are a lot of people looking for your content. It’s your job to help them find it because they WON’T find it.
It’s time to do some SEO.
I do a lot of SEO work for blogs. I’m actually pretty sick of it.
For this blog, I’ve been teaching my wife what to do, but for the most part, I left it to her to figure out.
Seems like she is doing a great job as the site is now showing up for a lot of keywords. It’s also showing among the top mommy blogs locally so that’s something.
We’re pretty low profile so we don’t go to events to network so in your case, don’t miss those chances. Getting invites to events is one of the perks of doing good blog SEO and you’d want to continue to spread the word about your website.
This post is definitely going to be shorter than my usual articles as I will be citing the other articles that I have already written.
It’d pretty stupid of me if I just explained everything again. LOL.
Before anything else, I’d like to say that you need to set goals. Whatever strategy you have in mind to be productive, throw that out of the window first since you are new to this.
Start with goal setting and start from there.
Do the things that will be mentioned one by one. Only be critical with your progress once you realize you are not taking action or just get plain ol’ lazy.
Online marketing, while it sounds like it’s not a big deal, actually is and it covers a BIG scope.
Today’s topic is SEO and SEO alone covers a HUGE scope.
It’s just one piece of the traffic puzzle.
Take things slow, do it one by one, absorb what you can and implement.
Do not make the mistake of jumping around.
So let’s get started.
As you are probably just starting with SEO, let’s be clear with one thing.
You don’t really need to read 100 blog posts about different SEO strategies.
Understand the basics, implement and go from there. Not all SEO strategies will work for whatever it is that you will decide to do.
Let’s start with the core things you need to do.
SEO your Blog/Website
Since your blog is already set-up and a bit optimized already if you follow my guide, you need to do some final tweaking.
Once it’s set-up, then you pretty much won’t need to worry about it ever again unless you change designs.
Doing on-page SEO first for your whole blog is a must. Follow the other steps in that post that you haven’t done yet and implement them.
SEO your Blog Post/Content
With your site optimized, it’s time to create content.
Your content needs to be optimized as much as possible so follow the instructions here. Utilize internal linking for better SEO success. Your blog readers will thank you.

Off-Page SEO
Off-Page SEO is basically about what you do to promote your website.
It can be mentions of your brand on forums and other blog but for the most part, it’s about link building.
You can do it by yourself. Connect to other website owners or bloggers. Talk to influencers. Get relevant links pointing to your website.
Google will follow links and it’s how they gauge the importance of your website.
It’s a lot of work so don’t take short cuts. You can outsource SEO but you need to be aware of what you outsource and to who. There are different SEO practitioners so you need to make the smart decision before pulling the trigger.
