The Mommy Tag | Mother’s Day Special

Mommy and Light selfie. She loves to selfie!

I was tagged by my good friend Char to do this post since I am a MOM now (you can check out her Mother’s Day Special video post here with her cute daughter Robyn after you read my post, ok? ^_^). I know Mother’s Day already went by, but in my head, Mother’s Day is the whole month of May. Just like my birthday is the whole month of August haha!ย I believe that having a baby means nothing will ever go according to plan anymore, that your new time is the LATE time and leaving things half way done is now the norm. So I have a really good and valid excuse as to why this post is late. ๐Ÿ™‚

Seriously, though, I never really knew what it meant when parents say that once you have a kid everything changes. Not until I became a parent. It puts things into perspective and you want to become a better person. I mean really become a better person for your child. You also have this urge to make a change in the world. Suddenly, you not only want to protect your child from the world out there, but you also want to change it for them. It’s the baby effect!

Anyway, let’s get started. Light is 5 months and 3 weeks old now.ย Here are the questions.

Are you a SAHM (stay at home mom) or working mom?

I’d like to believe that I’m a WAHM (work at home mom). I not only take care of Light and our home, but I also handle some of our online businesses (by the way, here’s a good article my husband wrote about making money online). I admit that I do more of the SAHM activities since we don’t have household help or yayas (nannies), but I do get some work done (it just takes longer to finish). Char calls it the Supermom. I think I’m just lucky with Light. She’s a low maintenance baby. She can entertain herself. She’s a sleepy head, too, like her father. ๐Ÿ™‚

Would you have it any other way?

I would like to go to an office to work just to get out of the house and feel like I’m really working (I’m traditional that way). But I want to bring Light with me when I do that, and right now it’s not possible. I guess I want it both ways – to work and be a full time mother also.

Do you co-sleep?

We don’t let Light sleep with us on our bed. I’m afraid of SIDS incidents. I never co-slept with her when she was a newborn and now that she’s almost six months old, the only time I let her sleep with us is when I feed her really early in the morning and she falls asleep during feeding. I don’t want to wake her up so I let her sleep on our bed. Since we’re also getting up in a few minutes, there’s a small chance of us squashing her (eep!). Sometimes my husband is already up by then so there’s a huge space for her and me. ๐Ÿ™‚
We do have her crib (the Graco Pack ‘n’ Play Playard) beside our bed. I’m still thinking of when I can have her sleep in her own room with the “real” crib. It’s just so convenient having her sleep with us (I mean in the same room ^_^).

One must have gear for baby?

I would have to say that the Fisher Price Newborn To Toddler Portable Rocker we got during my baby shower played a great part in making me a “Supermom”. Until now I’m able to do a lot because that rocker can entertain Light for hours. My husband and I can eat and watch a movie at home like we used to because we can put Light on her rocker and she gets amused by the mobile bar.

Noooooo!!! Not wrestling!!!!

Light has nice, long dreams on her rocker.

How many kids do you plan on having?

I used to think that if I’d have to have a kid, that one would be enough. But now, I’m thinking that maybe having another one is also great. I want Light to have someone, like if ever she becomes an introvert or a loner, at least she has someone, and vice versa. Our future second child will also have someone (besides their parents haha). They’ll have an instant best friend in each other. ๐Ÿ™‚

Date night? How many nights (or days) per month?

So far, no date nights yet. ๐Ÿ™ I feel like I’m not going to have a relaxing time anyway. I will be constantly thinking about our baby. Wherever we go, Light goes, too. I don’t think I can even leave her. I’m so attached it’s bad! ๐Ÿ™
Our Valentine’s Day date. Light was not too happy, here. ๐Ÿ™

Your childโ€™s favorite show?

None yet.

Name one thing you bought before you had your baby and you never ended up using?

I bought a rubber bulb syringe thingy. I tried to use it to get her booger out. It didn’t work!ย I just use cotton buds instead. You have to get the really tiny buds for your little one, though.
I think you have to use some saline solution on your baby’s nose for this to work. I never needed to do that on Light so we ended up not using it.
This thing is just collecting dust.

Your childโ€™s fave food?

Breastmilk? Haha

How many cars does your family have?

One.

Weight gain before pregnancy, during and after, and now?

I gained 40 POUNDS! I was soooo overweight! ๐Ÿ™ But a week later after giving birth, I lost 30 pounds already. ๐Ÿ™‚ Right now, I’m not sure. I haven’t checked yet. I’m still enjoying the perks of exclusively breastfeeding. I’m eating more than my usual pre-pregnancy self, but I might be heavier by about 5-10 pounds only. ๐Ÿ™‚

Dream vacation with your kiddos?

I would love to bring Light to Disneyland and Universal Studios.ย ALL THE THEME PARKS AROUND THE WORLD.

Dream vacation without the kiddos?

Actually, anywhere my husband and I have never been to would be great. Just like the old days. ๐Ÿ™‚

How has your life changed since your baby has been born?

As I’ve mentioned in my previous post here, no more real vacations. It has been exhausting and almost mechanical, and I can’t just get up and hang with my friends anymore. But it doesn’t matter. I am happier. Shall I dare say my life is complete now? ๐Ÿ™‚

I suddenly became a home buddy haha!

Finish the sentence: โ€œIt makes my heart melt to seeโ€ฆโ€

It makes my heart melt to see my husband playing with Light. It makes my heart melt to see Light do her shy, excited (kilig) smile when she sees me. And this.

How adorable is this? ๐Ÿ™‚ Two sleepyheads! A photo posted by Ceena Giselle (@ceenagiselle) on Apr 18, 2015 at 6:11am PDT

My happy baby Light.
My happy baby Light.

Where do you shop for your kids?

The basic stuff would be at SM Department Stores. Dresses at Periwinkle. And when I have the budget, ZARA!!!

Fave mommy make-up and skin care products?

My make-up is simple. Foundation, something for the cheeks and mascara. For something simpler and on a lazy day, I just apply sunblock on my face. I use Armada Face Cover from VMV Hypoallergenics.

Huggies diaper jeans: yay or nay?

Nay? I try to use cloth diapers as much as possible. Cloth diapers are awesome! ย Want to check out my stash here? ๐Ÿ™‚

Have you always wanted kids?

Not really. I thought I’d be okay without kids. I just agreed to have a kid because it’s the next normal thing to do in a marriage. I never thought I’d actually enjoy and love having Light in my life. I know some parents would say that they can’t imagine their lives without a baby now that they have one. But for me, I can still imagine my life without a baby. It’s just that I know it’s not going to be this great and fulfilling. It’s like I now know what life feels like with Light and it’s better than a life without her.

Happy New Year! New year, new baby!

Best part about being a mom?

The best part is getting to see Light grow and go through all these milestones. It’s just so amazing.
Milestone: Light discovers her hands.
